[treading water]

[treading water]

[treading water]

a few years ago
in Hawaii
looking out from the hill
at the Ho’okipa surfers,
mostly waiting for
that perfect wave that never comes;
treading water.
heavy lidded
green sea turtles
on the countless sand grains,
eyes like
bodhisattva statues,
meditating.
witnessing the missing,
the turtles don’t wait for perfection.
they don’t know perfection.
they don’t know imperfection.
they know
this moment
just as it truly is.
for those who think
good bad perfect imperfect,
the moment is already long gone.
a wave missed is the same as
a life missed;
one moment is
every moment.
